STYLE FEATURE: CLEOPATRA'S KLOSET
I'm super, super excited about today's post! I had the wonderful opportunity of partnering up with the lovely Olivia from Cleopatra's Kloset on a wonderful look for you guys and I just couldn't wait to share with you! I was definitely very grateful to have had this great collaboration with her as she is someone I definitely look up to in terms of style and self confidence. She is very versatile when it comes to styling different pieces and a definite champion for exuding confidence in everyday wear. We met for coffee, which gave us the chance to catch up as well as get to work to prepare this casual look for you!
The funny thing is we briefly talked about what look we were going for in terms of the occasion but we didn't have an idea of what the other person was going to wear. However, we weirdly showed up looking somewhat similar top to bottom, complimenting each other very well haha! I guess great minds think alike!
We were going for a casual daytime look for a day out for coffee together.
I opted for a laid back look so I chose denim because I mean it doesn't really get any casual than jeans and paired it with a blue silk blouse and some nude heels. I've recently fallen in love with silk pieces and I was so happy to grab this and another from H&M on sale and I love how I can dress it up or down. I also love blue on me so you'll find me wearing blue a lot because I think it complements dark skin very beautifully!
My thought process with the outfit was suitability for where I was going to be, what I was going to do and where I would be doing it. Actually, this is generally my thought process with most of my outfits because It offers me a bit more structure to plan ahead for the occasion. I don't always do it though but I know that when I do it definitely shows. I think a lot of my planning goes to the shoes I choose.
When I know I'll be walking a lot I generally try to stay away from wearing high heels or I try to opt for minimal height or at least general comfortability because you don't want your whole outing ruined because you can't walk in the shoes. Sometimes I carry flats in my purse just incase haha. But this is why I try to plan ahead when it comes to picking outfits before going out, it helps you avoid unpleasant surprises such as uncomfortable shoes or the weather.
Comfort for me almost always triumphs style. If I'm comfortable I feel good thus I look good. If I'm not it shows. I'll give you an example. Until recently I had been wearing the wrong bra size. Don't be surprised, most people do. I had not taken into consideration that my size had changed because of weight loss/gain etc and there would always be times when it felt uncomfortable and I would have to adjust it so often which was annoying and that just looked weird in public. You could tell I wasn't comfortable. So this is why comfort is always important for me when it comes to dressing up.
You do not want to be adjusting your bra every two minutes.
So, what is the lesson here if any? Well, it's to just say that putting a little bit of thought into what you plan to wear is very important. A little bit of planning can help you create a look that you are proud of and that feels like you.
This is what I learnt from this collaboration with Olivia. We were able to come up with a sync look only because we took a bit of time to prepare and planned accordingly. I know you don't need to plan every single outfit, I don't either but if you want to make a statement, or have somewhere to go that requires as such, plan.
Whether it's a casual time with friends or a date. It will definitely make a difference!
